Featured here are some of my own personal HO scale model trains. I will be adding to this gallery as I get time to photograph more of my collection. The process I use to make these pictures is time consuming.
I use a digital compositing technique called “focus-stacking” to get clear focus on my models from front to back. HO scale models are 1/87th the scale of the real thing, or 87 times smaller, so getting them all the way in focus in a single frame using traditional methods doesn’t work. Focus-stacking takes a series of shots with the subject and camera locked in position. By changing the focus on the camera lens slightly in between each photograph, then stacking all the images together in photo editing software, it is possible to blend them together and get focus all the way through.
